Hank, the youngest of four children, was born in Fort Worth, TX on 29 August 1922 to Henry and Lillian Worley. While attending high school at R. L. Paschal, he was employed by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram as a carrier and salesman. After graduation, his first job was a concrete laborer for a cement construction company. At the time of his draft registration, he was working for Western Electric Service Company.
In July 1942, Worley signed up as a Navy recruit. For reasons unknown, less than two months later, he enlisted as a specialist in the Army Air Corps, SN 18176644. In July 1943, he was selected as an aviation cadet and reported for training at the preflight school, San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center.
Worley was flying his fifteenth mission when his plane went down.
